The Reader

Bronze and stone

A single ribbon of metal loops into an open book on a block of stone. The Reader won the People's Choice Award at Lafayette's Art on the Street in 2025.

Ted describes his metalwork as “a sort of time travel device”: pieces that will outlast him, and make someone a few centuries from now wonder who made them and why.

Ideas come from nature, music, other artists and sometimes dreams — “a shape in my brain won't let go until I make it.” The Reader started, like everything Ted builds, as a pencil sketch.
