Ted R Wilson Artist Sculptor
Spirit of the Forest
Forged steel, bronze and stone

A stag whose root-like body seems to grow out of the earth, bronze leaves sprouting from its antlers, one hoof on a rock from the Grand Canyon area. Critics' Choice Award, Lafayette Art on the Street 2025.
Ted and his assistant spent six weeks of full-time work on it. The steel was heated in the forge about eight inches at a time, bent over cleats on the anvil and welding table, then hammered for a woody, vine-like texture. The leaves are cut and formed from sheet bronze.
The stag is a quiet, watchful presence — a call for good stewardship of the land. Ted wrote a poem to go with it, which ends by reminding the viewer that “your intentions matter.”
